It is not a shortcut, and it is not appropriate for every painful condition. What Shockwave Therapy Is Designed to Address
Shockwave therapy uses controlled acoustic pressure waves delivered to a targeted area of the body. The treatment is commonly used as part of a broader plan for chronic tendon-related pain, scarred or restricted tissue, and some stubborn musculoskeletal complaints.
The word “shockwave” can sound intimidating, but treatment does not involve electric shock or surgery. A provider applies gel to the skin and moves a handheld device over the selected area. The sensation is often described as a quick tapping or pulsing feeling. Intensity can be adjusted based on the body part being treated and the patient’s tolerance.
